Punjab Government has decided to issue infrastructure bonds to build Southern Loop of Lahore Ring Road. During a high level briefing, it was intimated that approximately Rupees 50 billion are required to complete the Lahore Ring Road and such a huge amount cannot be spared from Annual Development Programme. The meeting was told that Rupees 40 billion were spent on building Northern Loop of Lahore Ring Road and Rupees 50 billion would be required for the Southern Loop of Lahore Ring Road. Negotiations are going on with companies from Turkey and China to build the road on BOT basis. An alternate is to raise funds through Infrastructure Bonds. According to sources, international firms had asked guarantees to safeguard their investment which Punjab Government has been unable to provide.
